JOHN BRUZONwas born and educated in Gibraltar. From an early age he showed great promise and talent at the piano, but opportunities in Gibraltar for training in music were then practically negligible. By his own determination he won a bursary which enabled him to study in London with Eric Hope and later at Trinity College of Music with the pianist Irene Kohler to whom he owes much.
Over the years he has enjoyed a varied and exciting career, being equally at home in both classical and lighter fields of music. He has performed in many concerts and recitals throughout the UK and abroad, including engagements at the Wigmore Hall, London, and a series of classical programmes on the QE2 for part of a world cruise.
He partnered the renowned English National Opera’s baritone Derek Hammond-Stroud at the Fairfield Halls 20th Anniversary Celebrity Lunchtime Concerts and in a performance of the song cycle “Winterreise” for the Schubert Society of Great Britain. He was also a regular accompanist for his busy teaching practise in London.
In addition to his work as a classical musician John Bruzon has performed extensively as an accompanist in cabaret with many well known artists including the late Dora Bryan and Marti Caine.
He now dedicates an increasing amount of time to teaching and is on the Piano Committee for the Springboard Arts Festival which is an annual event for youth in Brighton and Hove. John is passionate in his desire to have a part in encouraging young musicians to constantly strive for better standards.
